Abstract
Using fuzzy clustering analysis, this paper comprehensively categorize, analyze and evaluate the Yangtz River Delta region 15 cities by MATLAB mathematical software tools. By the basic economic data of Yangtz River Delta region in 2001: GDP, the proportion of tertiary industries, financial income, per capita GDP, the proportion of fiscal revenue in GDP, exports, foreign capital actually used, the area of social consumer goods, the population at the end of each year, Per-Capita Disposable Income of urban residents, Per-Capita Disposable Income of farmer . These 15 cities are divided into any zones in comprehensive strength．To avoid leading to vicious competition, the cities with similar economic strength will be devided into the same category. To prevent major cities pressing the vulnerable cities and the disadvantaged cities competing with major cities blindly, the cities with different economic strength level should be divided into different categories. By analyzing the results of fuzzy clustering, the cooperation of cities should be enhanced during the time of development at Yangtz River Delta region. And to promote integrative development, the comprehensive strength of the third level cities should be increased.
