Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are unique nanostructured materials with remarkable physical and mechanical properties, such as high elastic modulus, as well as remarkable thermal and electrical conductivity, making them a very attractive candidate in composite material formulations.
In this paper,High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) matrix composites filled with Multi Wall Carbon Nanotube (MWCNT) were prepared, studied the mechanical and thermal properties of MWCNTs/HDPE Composites. The results show that, HDPE filled with carbon nanotubes can improve the yield strength, for the composites filled with carbon nanotubes,4 wt% ~ 10 wt% is the Significant scope for improvement, 4 wt% and 10 wt% improved the yield strength 1.6% and 11%, respectively;as to the impact strength ,wt% ~ 8 wt% is the reasonable scope for improvement, when the content is 8 wt%,the impact strength only 28.4% to pure HDPE .Carbon nanotubes filled in below the 2wt% is the ideal content to improve the crystallization temperature, when filled with 2wt% ,the temperature increased 2.29 ℃;while, it dosen’t make obvious difference to the melting point with filling of MWCNTs.
