Abstract
Mass customization is one new production mode. When the customers’ demand becomes more and more diversified and specific, and when the competition based on the time becomes more intense than before, the production mode of mass customization increasingly display the competitive advantage and broad development prospect. First, the paper describes the origin, development, environment characters and principles of mass customization; then analysis the advantages and disadvantages of mass customization compared with the models of lean production, agile manufacturing and instant customerization; in the end, introduces the concrete techniques of production management in the mass customization include rapid reaction, product family configuration management, assemble to order, group technology and production flow analysis, and suggests a production model of mass customization.
