Abstract
Image contains large data,so how to compress image data has developed as a special research area-image coding. How to organize,save,transmit and restore image data effectively,how to explore more efficient and better compression rate image coding techniques has become one of important tasks in modern information processing techniques.
In this thesis, the introduction to the necessity, the development and the research of image compression coding techniques have been firstly made before the evaluation criteria of image compression techniques have been listed.
Image compression coding includes loss compression coding lossless compression coding.The image compressed can save space and its quality can be better.Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT)works simple and is similar to wavelet transform. It is practical to study image coding technique based on DCT. JPEG standard as the image compression’s standard is in vogue, because it have high compressibility for image. In image compression coding based on wavelet technique,embedded coding produces code streams that it can be truncated randomly.
This thesis focuses on the three image compression techniques to study and compare their respective advantages and disadvantages.
