Tie Ning's Benhua places "male" and "female" in social life in the same time, and give each enough space for expression, changing the impression of no man, missing men and weak men in the past works. The story describes a peaceful atmosphere under the time of war. It doesn’t mean Tie Ning abandons her being concerned about gender writing, focusing on the fate or living condition of women. Actually, the author wants to show, in male culture, the real existence of seemingly harmonious that women in Chinese society, especially being conditioned in the traditional culture and being fettered by feudal ideology. Under the push of history and reality, a lot of women have been got used to sacrifice own feelings for the harmony of families and society.
