A Comparison of Urban and Rural Residents Consumption Behavior in Zhejiang Province
ABSTRACT
According to the statistical data of urban and rural residents in Zhejiang Province during 1978-2006, this paper through the calculation of Engel's coefficient and the establishment of the income and consumption models, to make a comparative analysis of consumption behavior of urban and rural residents in Zhejiang, and made out a conclusion that there are still some gaps in both consumption level and structure between urban and rural residents - that is, not only the basic level of consumption of rural residents below that of urban residents, but also the average marginal consumption tendency do. On the basis of this conclusion, the paper continued to analyze the differences and reasons of consumer behavior characteristics of urban and rural residents in our province. At the end of the paper, I raise some proposals to improve the consumption level of rural residents and narrow the gap between urban and rural residents.
