Report on Selected Translation of The Ten Rules of Sam Walton
Abstract: This paper is a combination of practice and theory, which drives home the actual difficulties in translation. The author attempts to solve and analyze the problems with the aid of Skopostheorie. Problems occur in tentative translation are selected, sorted and analyzed explicitly. The application of Scopostheorie is a conscious evaluation of the ST intention and the TT function in the target language. The paper contains two parts: a brief introduction of Skopostheorie and analysis of the translation process. With a clear understanding of the “goal” the translator, this study identifies five categories of translation-related problems, i.e. nouns and proper nouns, omission, emphasis, punctuation and feminism consciousness in translation.
