ABSTRACT
This paper first makes a brief introduction to Moby Dick and The Old Man and the Sea and points out that the two works bear similarity in their plots and they both enjoy high reputations. And then with the previous study concerned, the themes of the two novels are analyzed and made a comparison from perspectives and the conflict and the spirit. At last the major symbols of the two novels are analyzed and made a comparison from perspectives of the "fish" and the characters. This thesis intends to make a better understanding of the inner meaning of the two works through the analysis and comparison.
