ABSTRACT
This paper explores Defoe’s spirit of capitalism seen in Robinson Crusoe from three different perspectives. First, it makes an introduction of the life of Daniel Defoe and his masterpiece Robinson Crusoe, and points out that Robinson Crusoe embodies Defoe’s spirit of capitalism. It then studies Defoe’s spirit of capitalism through the personality of Robinson Crusoe who is the character of Robinson Crusoe. It indicates that Robinson Crusoe’s spirit of capitalism gives expression to the Defoe’s spirit of capitalism. It finally analyzes Defoe’s spirit of capitalism from the plot of Robinson Crusoe.
