Abstract: English has been a popular tool of communication in China. However, recently, some middle school students seem not to be good at reading in English. What has caused this situation, is it because of the teacher’s responsibility or only the students’ responsibility? The essay analyzes the reasons and recent situation in China, introducing the meaningful schema theory for teaching of English reading. Moreover, a questionnaire is put into the essay with the data. In the questionnaire, there are some vital reasons that are important and helpful to both teachers and students. The aim of this dissertation is to stimulate students’ interest in reading English and to help teachers to improve teaching methods in the teaching process of English reading.
