ABSTRACT
This paper can be divided into seven parts. The first part is the introduction, briefly describing the concept of domestication and foreignization and the discussion about it in China, the series novels of Harry Potter and the purpose of writing this paper. The second part is focused on the popularity of Harry Potter in China and some of its academic research. The third part states three aspects of conflicts in cultural translation——lexical conflicts, syntactic conflicts and conflicts in proverbs and idioms. The fourth part explains the reasons why conflicts emerge from the angles of history, regional factor and religious belief. The fifth part combines theory with the chosen text from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and analyzes the translation problems it raises. The sixth part tries to come up with the resolution of using domestication in expression and foreignization in conveying cultural content. In the end, a conclusion is given to summarize the whole paper.
