ABSTRACT
Nowadays, modern enterprises in the whole business process, including suppliers, manufacturers, dealers and the third-party logistic enterprise, are faced with lots of uncertainties. As a result, it has been put at the first place in the agenda for those corporations to strengthen their capability of exchanging sharing information, enhance the transparency, reliability and efficiency of inventory information, as to improve the quality of warehouse management and inventory control. And all those issues can only be achieved by the help of WMS(warehouse management system). It has been proved that WMS could bring significant economic benefits for different corporations in different industries. In particular, WMS can help improve the competitiveness of the logistic companies in the whole market. Meanwhile, as the most important component of VMI (vendor managed inventory, VMI) strategy, the quality and efficiency of Warehouse Management System could directly put influence on the operation of VMI system, as well as the entire supply chain operation.
In this thesis, the author conducts an analysis on the theory of warehouse management system and tries to improve the design of WMS. The whole program is based on the existing technology and customers’ demands for a new model of vendor-managed inventory (VMI). By using the hardware of logistic center, the author analyzes the existing Warehouse Management System, and tries to propose suggestion for solving problems resulted from the imperfect process and operation, based on taking consideration of both customer demands and the situation of Suzhou Logistic Center Co., Ltd. What is more, considering the new functional requirements for the company's warehouse management brought out by Suzhou industrial upgrading movement, the author adds some new functions with highly operational and developable features. It is hoped that the improved system should help improve the efficiency of the original system, reduce the error rate, and provide customers with more comprehensive functions. It is also hoped that it could help increase the income, reduce the costs and enhance the economic efficiency for the companies.
