Synthesis and Characterization of Copolymer of Isobutyl
Vinyl Ether and Maleic Anhydride
Abstract: The alternate copolymer of isobutyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride (PIBVEMA) was synthesized by using solution radical copolymerization. A series of copolymers of isobutyl vinyl ether (IBVE) and maleic anhydride (MA) were prepared in solvents of vastly different property. The effects of solvent , colymerization temperature and polymerization time on the yield and specific viscosity of the copolymer were investigated .Meleic anhydride and isobutyl vinyl ether are dissolved in vinyl acetate,PIBVEMA was synthesized by dripping this solution into 57℃ cyclohexane and the product’s yield is over 90% .The structure of the copolymer was characterized by FTIR and 13C-NMR and the specific viscosity was determined by viscosimeter . Finally, the experiments results show that the products we’ve produced is the alternate copolymer of isobutyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride (PIBVEMA) .
