The Design of a Task-based Oral Coursebook Relating to Local Context
Abstract: This project explores to design a more effective oral English course book relating to local context and based on the Task-based Approach, the internationally up-to-date language teaching approach. This course book Speaking English in Shenzhen is designed for those, who work and live in Shenzhen with senior middle school or college education background, but are urgent to develop their oral English for communicative purposes.
The theme of Chapter 8 is Tourism in Shenzhen. The author selects listening and reading materials about travel mainly relating to Shenzhen context. Derived from sufficient interesting and informative comprehensible materials on the topics of Shenzhen’s tourist attractions, the author designs varied tasks such as exchanging ideas or opinions about the better place to visit, discussing the best routes to travel around Shenzhen, debating on the effect of the development of Shenzhen’s tourism. It is claimed by completing the tasks in their real life that learners of Shenzhen can develop their fluency in speaking English with more interest, passion and confidence.
