Abstract: The Catcher in the Rye elaborates in detail the entire process of the spirit break of Holden, a 16 year-old teenager. It promulgates the spirit crisis that the modern people have to face or already ingrained. People made the silent revolt in war's fear, death choice and keeping watch lonely. But the result of revolts actually can only be the compromise finally. It manifests the tragedy consciousness intensely. The novel in the topic is the capitalist society's true picture after World War II. Then it outlines the social condition vividly and causes the modern people to have a deep impression of the society which is prosperous at the face but actually it was flooding with deceit and ugliness everywhere. It gives readers a strong impression about the social condition, the falseness between people, and the impediment tragedy. And also subdues to the social tragedy effect the novel produces. The author of this novel exposes the indifference of the society through unfolding character's inner world, the falseness and ugliness for the readers.
