ABSTRACT
This paper introduces the novel “Jane • Eyre” and its prototype “Cinderella”, and then a comparative analysis of the two is made by using archetypal criticism, pointing out that the similarities in setting up the figures, the whole story structure, and the fantasy aspects of the plot. After the comparative analysis of the above study, it points out that “Jane • Eyre” surpasses the original version in several aspects. The further analysis is made to enable the readers to have a better understanding of “Cinderella” prototype embodied in the work and thus get a better idea of the origin and development of Cinderella as well.
