Abstract: The 21 century is an information century. In this new century, English plays an important role in different situations all over the world. As a new and energetic cross-disciplinary comprehensive course, ESP has been carried out in most universities and colleges worldwide. And it also attracts the interest of scholars both at home and abroad. As we all know, financial English is a branch of ESP, and is also an important communicative skill in business situations. This paper is based on my own experience of taking the financial English training course. Through this experience, I found quite a few problems in teaching. In this paper, I will study and research the origins, definition and characteristics of ESP, and then I will analyze the existing problems in the current ESP teaching. And a questionnaire is designed for the classmates who took the financial English training with me. All of them are this year’s graduates of English major in the universities and colleges in Hangzhou. Moreover I will analyze the result of the questionnaire in order to confirm the main drawbacks of the ESP teaching in universities and colleges in Hangzhou and put forward some feasible measures.
