ABSTRACT
The title of this thesis is Translative Views of Lin Yutang and their Representation in Six Chapters of a Floating Life. As the title suggests, the present study attempts to explore Lin Yutang’s translation theory. Therefore, it mainly focuses on two aspects, that is, the translation theory Lin Yutang proposes and his representative work- Six Chapters of a Floating Life. And through detailed analyses of Six Chapters of a Floating Life, tries to demonstrate how the result of his translation practice verifies his theory.
This thesis consists of five parts, namely, an introduction, three chapters, and a conclusion. The introduction tries to make clear the research reason and focuses, Chapter two is background introduction, that is a brief introduction to Lin Yutang’s translation work—Six Chapters of a Floating Life. Chapter three focuses on Lin Yurang’s translation theory. In chapter four, Six Chapters of a Floating Life, one of his representative translated works, is analyzed to demonstrate how Lin Yutang validates his translation theory in his translation practice. At the end the thesis is a conclusion on which the main points of this thesis are summarized.
