can always solve all the problems in film title translation. For this reason, the translator should have a comprehensive understanding of the whole film and the essence of each translation method. When one method does not work well, the translator should turn to other ones. From the above, to some extent, Skopos theory provides theoretical support for some excellent versions of film title translation that used to be regarded as a traitor to the original.
Translating English film titles looks easy, but it takes a lot of learning. The work needs to be dealt with and studied carefully and conscientiously. The present thesis is a tentative study of English film title translation in the hope that it can make a further contribution to this field. Although suggesting a worthy theoretical framework for English film title translation, this thesis is far from a perfect one, and it also has some limitations, both in terms of quantitative analysis and specific explanations. Regarding quantitative analysis, due to limited time and space more useful film titles and versions are not included. The analysis could be more accurate if the samples could be more comprehensive. As far as specific explanations are concerned, due to limited time and energy, instead of conducting a public survey, the author of this thesis mainly adopts the speculation method and may inevitably have more or less her judgment on the effectiveness of certain versions. Besides, this thesis is only target receiver-oriented and it cannot cover all the aspects of English film title translation. For these reasons, the present thesis is far less than coming to an end and needs further attention and devotion. Considering the limitations, the author hopes that in the future, researchers equipped with more theoretical competence could achieve more along the path.
